The Seniors Companion Project is a free service that aims to improve seniors health and well-being by reducing isolation and loneliness through the support of friendship, socializing and activity.

Helping Hands

The Seniors Companion Project accepts referrals from family members, agencies, and friends. All of our participants (seniors and companions) are screened in person by the Project Coordinator. Every effort is made to match a volunteer companion with an isolated senior who has similar interests.
Companions are provided with an orientation and volunteer training. Volunteers are highly valued by the SCP.  Regular follow-up calls and visits by the Project Coordinator are made to participants to make sure that the senior and companion are enjoying their time together.
Confidentiality is a very important part of this project. All volunteer companions are required to sign and respect confi dentiality agreements. They are also required to provide a Police Records Check.

•Are you a senior or elder living alone?
•Have you experienced relationship losses (ex. a spouse, family member, friend)?
•Have you experienced losses in independence (ex. mobility, cooking, driving)?
•Would you enjoy having a companion to talk to, to visit with or to go for a walk with on a regular basis?

•Are you a person that values human connections?
•Do you want to make a positive impact in the life of a senior or elder in our community?
•Do you have a little free time to be a volunteer?
•Would you like to improve your own health by making social connections?
•Are you at least 16 years of age?

Volunteers are needed for the following:

Stepping Out

•Regular phone contact with a senior
•Knowing that a familiar person will be calling to check in can provide reassurance and enjoyment.

Friendly Call
