By-Law Enforcement

Municipal Law (By-Law) Enforcement

The Planning & Development Department includes the Municipal Law (By-Law) Enforcement Department. Town By-Laws are enforced by two full time By-Law Enforcement Officers. The CAO supervises the Municipal Law (By-Law) Enforcement Department.

The goal of the department is to help people understand and follow our by-laws through information, education and voluntary compliance. However, when by-laws are not followed the By-Law Officers take appropriate actions such as laying charges under the provisions of the Town By-Laws. Action may also include direct enforcement where the Town may have to remove or resolve a non-compliance at the property owner’s expense. The By-Law Enforcement Department provides both proactive and reactive levels of by-law enforcement services to the residents of the Town of Fort Frances.

By-Law Enforcement Officers are available Monday to Friday 8:30am to 4:30pm. During the months of July & August availability is Monday to Friday 8:00am to 4:00pm.

After regular business hours or on weekends if immediate assistance is needed, contact the Ontario Provincial Police Fort Frances Detachment at 1-888-310-1122. Please note that the OPP responds to calls on a priority basis and response times for by-law related concerns may be delayed.
