WHEREAS, we have all gathered in the cold today to mark a very special occasion; and
WHEREAS, the people of Fort Frances are a hardy-breed who scoff at below zero temperatures; and
WHEREAS, skating is a fundamental Canadian winter pastime; and
WHEREAS, other municipalities have offered skating trails to their communities; and
WHEREAS, we may be biased, but we consider this one to be the best one in Northwestern Ontario; and
WHEREAS, a trail like this will attract families and tourists to visit and enjoy our town; and
WHEREAS, offering a fun, outdoor activity for the community to enjoy does not come without hard work and effort; and
WHEREAS, our Parks Crew consisting of Darwin Woods, Trevor Mckinnon, and lead Cody Vangel is simply the best and we must thank them for their creativity and hard work in the cold; and
WHEREAS, we must also thank the Community Services and Facilities Manager Craig Miller for his brilliant burst of inspiration in coming up with the name, Legion Loop; and
WHEREAS, we also thank the Royal Canadian Legion for this wonderful park; and
NOW THEREFORE, I, Mayor Andrew Hallikas of the Town of Fort Frances by the power vested in me, do hereby proclaim that the Legion Loop Skating Trail is now open. I encourage all residents to spread the word, skate, and thank the parks crew.
