WHEREAS Louis Riel, was a courageous leader of the Métis people, who fought valiantly for the rights and recognition of the Métis Nation; and

AND WHEREAS Louis Riel Day serves as a reminder of the enduring legacy, ongoing contributions, and cultural heritage of the Métis community to the fabric of Canadian Society; and

AND WHEREAS Louis Riel paid the ultimate sacrifice on November 16, 1885. This day commemorates his lifelong dedication to advocating for the Métis community; and

AND WHEREAS the Town of Fort Frances recognizes the significant historical and cultural contributions of the Métis community within our region, stemming from their unique heritage and deep-rooted connection to this land:

NOW THEREFORE it is resolved that I, Mayor Andrew Hallikas, on behalf of the Town of Fort Frances, its council, administration, and staff do hereby proclaim November 16, 2024, as Louis Riel Day in the Town of Fort Frances, and we encourage all citizens to reflect upon and celebrate the rich culture, history, identity, and ongoing contributions of the Métis people in our community and our country.
