Loss of Bearskin Airlines services effective May 11th, 2024

On January 12, 2024 Perimeter Aviation, owners of Bearskin Airlines, announced their intentions to discontinue domestic aviation services in Fort Frances effective May 11th, 2024. Bearskin is the primary air service provider to the Town of Fort Frances airport.

Mayor Andrew Hallikas says "I’m very concerned that we have lost the only regularly scheduled public carrier flying into Fort Frances. This will have a negative effect on the economic development and health care of Fort Frances and the Rainy River District."

Since receiving notice, the Town of Fort Frances Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) Travis Rob has been working with the City of Kenora and City of Dryden to try and find a solution. Kenora and Dryden have received notice of discontinuation of services for their municipalities as well.

Part of the process will be discussions with Perimeter Aviation to understand why this decision was made. The municipalities have also been in contact with senior government elected representatives. Hallikas says "We will be doing all we can to ensure that we have a public air carrier flying into Fort Frances regularly."

This is certainly disappointing news, but through working partnerships, the Town is hopeful in finding a solution. Town of Fort Frances representatives will provide details regarding progress as updates become available.
