Learn about the petition process:

A petition is a written request signed by individuals in the community

A petition is submitted to the Municipality for consideration

The request and copies will be circulated to Members of Council by the Clerk

The petition will be placed on an agenda of a Regular Council Meeting
Petition Form Instructions
If wanting to use a Town petition form:
- Print copies: https://www.fortfrances.ca/sites/default/files/fillable_petition_form.pdf
- Request copies from clerks@fortfrances.ca or 807 274-5323 x1212
If you prefer to use your own petition, it must include:
- Address to Town Council
- Request an action for Council to take that's within their authority, and have it stated at the top of each petition page
- Contact information and name of the organizers
- Include names, addresses, and original signatures from petition signers

Q - My petition does not have the request for action on the top of each petition page. Is it valid?
A - Unfortunately not. You can either ask signers to resign new pages with the request for action, or you can submit the invalid petition as Correspondence: https://www.fortfrances.ca/town/mayor-council/communicating-council/submit-
Q - I have a petition I want to submit from an online petition website (such as change.org). Is this valid?
A - We do not accept petitions from petition websites, however you can submit this as correspondence for a Council agenda item. Learn more here: https://www.fortfrances.ca/town/mayor-council/communicating-council/submit-
Q - Who can submit a petition?
A - Any resident, business owner, or stakeholder within the municipality.
Q - Does a petition guarantee action by Council?
A - No, a petition does not guarantee that the request will be approved. However, it does ensure that the matter is formally brought to Council's attention for discussion and deliberation.
