The 2026 Outstanding Citizen Awards nomination form will be accepting nominations January 1 to February 28, 2026. Please complete all information.
The process is as follows:
- January 1 to February 28th of the calendar year, the Office of the Clerk will begin receiving nominations.
- Between March 1st to March 14th, the Citizen of the Year Ad-Hoc Committee will meet to formulate recommendations to Council.
- Members will be asked for both first choice and second choice for each category and weighted voted will be utilized to further determine recipients. Committee members must consider the quality of the nomination and vote objectively, not based on personal preference or bias.
- The second Council meeting of March, Council will receive recommendations of the Citizen of the Year Ad-Hoc Committee in-camera and will ultimately decide on recipients.
- Following voting, the Office of the Clerk will contact those being awarded and will invite them to attend the annual Volunteer Appreciation Event.
- Certain awards may not be provided annually. Circumstances which may lead to this outcome include:
- Nominations not being made for these categories; and/or
- Recipients and parents/guardians of recipients under eighteen (18) declining to receive the award.
To avoid conflicts of interest, the following persons cannot nominate:
- Current members of Mayor and Council
- The Office of the Clerk
- Those who sit on the Citizen of the Year Ad-Hoc
Committee Nominations will not be accepted by:
- Those who reside outside of the Rainy River District or those who do not work or own a business in the Rainy River District
- Those who nominate themselves
The personal information provided on this form is collected under the authority of the Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (MFIPPA). The information you provide will be used by Council members and the Office of the Clerk to authenticate the submission, and make considerations in terms of awarding. The contact information will also be utilized to contact those successful recipients awarded.
